Winkworth Arboretum, Hascombe Road, Godalming, GU8 4AD
An exceptional opportunity to create a semi-permanent installation in one of Surrey’s most picturesque venues.
Winkworth is a National Trust property and they are seeking submissions for a bespoke piece.
Their guiding theme/title is “Reflections” and the brief is entirely open to interpretation.
The placement is on a large expanse of wildflower meadow that has an uninterrupted view to the lake.
They have requested that the sculpture is engaging in both the near and far – It will delight people who are beside it but, crucially, also those who will view it from the far bank (approx. 100m away).
The “Far bank” is a sloping path through mature shrubs/trees that reaches a maximum height of approx. 20 metres.
It is highly recommended that you make time for a site visit.
Installation will be late 2022 or even spring 2023. Winkworth have indicated that they see the piece being displayed for a year or so and then removed.
There is no precise budget as yet, it’s open to negotiation, but it will be a four or five figure sum. The artist will be responsible for installation and removal approx. 12 months later. There will need to be a health and safety assessment produced. There are a number of details to address and Winkworth are prepared to be as accommodating as possible.
We (SS Society) collate all applicants and then present to Winkworth en masse. The SSS will not be making a pre-selection so all entries will be seen by Winkworth.
