In recent years we have struggled to fill important committee roles and to find willing volunteers for exhibition related functions including the vital role of Exhibition Manager. It often falls on the shoulders of the same few stalwarts and this is not equitable. The Committee understands that we are all busy people and time is precious, so we have decided to trial a reward scheme for those roles that involve the greatest commitment.
We feel that in principle SSS should not pay volunteers but should reward commitment by offering a shopping list of benefits, depending on the roles performed. The scheme below will run for a trial period of one calendar year from January 2019. There will be no retrospective rewards.
Exhibition Managers will benefit from:
Free annual membership
Free exhibition application fees (non-exhibiting managers will receive a voucher to be redeemed for goods or services)
No stewarding at the show they manage
Free studio visits
Free seminars
Attendance at the annual Managers’ dinner party
Travel expenses for set-up and take-down visits.
Exhibition Designers
Free annual membership
No entry fees for the show they design
No stewarding at the show they design
Free studio visits
Free seminars
NB An Exhibition Designer should expect to step up to be an Exhibition Manager at some point if requested.
Committee Members
Free annual membership
Free exhibition application fees
One stewarding session only per exhibition when showing
Free studio visits
Free seminars
Attendance at the annual Committee dinner party
Associate Committee Members

Expenses will continue to be paid according to the guidelines in the SSS Handbook.
If you are a member of a voluntary Society like ours it is incumbent upon you to give some of your time to assist with the running and functioning of one or more of the many aspects from which you derive benefit. We all have different strengths and can help in some way. Please let the Membership Secretary know what you would like to do next year to fulfil your obligation to the Society.
