Art of Glass Exhibition

Implication, Connotation & Correlation by Heike Brachlow

A cold, wet rainy day in Edinburgh prompted us to take shelter in the National Museum of Scotland. Surprised by our good fortune and armed with the curiosity of first-time visitors, we marvelled at the various exhibits in this immense space. But we soon got weary of the crowd…

Seeking a quieter environment, we chanced upon a gallery holding the Art of Glass exhibition, a partnership between the National Centre for Craft & Design and the National Museums of Scotland.

Art of Glass spotlights fifteen pieces of inspirational and diverse work by the leading glass artists based in Britain.

The Exhibition shows “how they are embracing the medium of glass in new and exciting ways, pushing the boundaries of techniques and challenging the perception of glass as merely a material for creating functional objects”.

There is no need to travel all the way to Edinburgh – the exhibition ended there in September – because the Art of Glass is currently in the National Centre for Craft & Design in Sleaford, Lincolnshire! The Exhibition will run until 20 January 2019 and is well worth the experience.
