More details:

Laurence Edwards is fascinated by human anatomy and the metamorphosis of form and matter that governs the lost wax process. Laurence blurs the boundaries between man and nature and organic forms influence his work. He casts natural materials from the Suffolk countryside into the sculptures which transforms his figures into something allegorical or mythic.

Laurence casts his own bronze in his foundry. He trained at Canterbury and studied bronze casting with Sir Antony Caro. He won a scholarship and travelled to India and Nepal to study traditional casting methods and soon set up his own foundry. He sculpted Creek Men, a trio of giants stood on an iron raft. His new work has a disassembly of form. The ‘figure dissolves and becomes its own environment’.

Surrey Sculpture Society is fortunate to have been offered a studio visit for 25 people to visit Laurence’s studio and after a restaurant lunch go on to the foundry to look at his latest sculptures, including the impressive 26ft tall figure under construction. Laurence will tell us about his distinguished career. Transport will be fixed when the number of tickets are booked.
