Teresa Martin

Sculpting at the Martin Sculpture workshops can involve casting large public commissions, highly individual abstract creations or desirable limited editions made durable for outdoor display.

With her own creative explorations Teresa uses typically rebellious moves and often traditional casting methods are reinvented and adapted producing many unique finishes and forms.

Working with and against Nature, forms are produced and resolved using the effects of the Elements on the materials.

Often very complex forms are created and cast by the artist. Some of the rubber moulds created would stretch the skills of the most experienced foundry worker.

There is a strong sense of game playing in this process. Various strategies have been used over nearly 40 years of sculpting, but much is left purposely to chance and rapid decisions are needed to guide the immergence of the eventual piece.

Teresa Martin has been a sculpture tutor for over 30 years after qualifying and graduating from Winchester School of Art, and has enjoyed encouraging creative skills and seeing people’s lives enriched as a result.
