Stavros Kotsiréas was born in Athens in 1960. His family emigrated to Brisbane Australia in 1963 where he spent his early childhood, returning to Greece in 1968.

In 1980, Stavros started a two year apprenticeship with Vassilis Fotopoulos, Oscar winner for the set and costume design for the film Zorba the Greek, who also became his mentor. His first experience with Fotopoulos was in 1980 when he assisted him in the set design for the theatrical plays “The White Wedding” and “Emikredes” at the Art Theater of Karolos Koun. In 2012 Stavros collaborated with Efi Mouriki and Vladimiros Kiriakidis, and created his first set design for the play “Extremities” by William Mastrosimone in the Proskinio Theatre in Athens.

In 1984 Stavros began six years of study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, Netherlands. There he specialised in Painting, Drawing and Graphic Art and went on to complete a Masters degree in Set and Costume Design. Stavros has presented his work in 37 solo and 74 group exhibitions and his work can be found in many private, public and corporate collections.

Since 1993 the artist lives and works in the United Kingdom. Recently Stavros has collaborated with the Greek based art foundry V&P Tassis, to cast and produce his sculptural work in bronze. He has also become since 2016 the artistic director of the art foundry.
