SSS gets ready for Landmark Sculpture Showcase 3-5 Nov

Tuesday, October 24, 2017

The Surrey Sculpture Society (SSS) will be staging their third annual arts event at the Landmark Arts Centre at Teddington, a 19th century Grade II* listed building known as ‘The Cathedral of the Thames Valley’.  The three day Sculpture Showcase and Arts Event will open on Friday 3rd November until Sunday 5th November from 10am - 5pm daily.

As part of the Society’s ‘Understanding Sculpture’ programme of events, the exhibition will be a dynamic presentation of the art form, with both 3D and 2D works of art and will include sketches and paintings.

Various demonstrations are planned on Saturday and Sunday with visitors able to see sculptures being created, meet the sculptors to discuss their creative process and watch videos covering different styles and techniques. The SSS members range from talented emerging sculptors to full time renowned professionals.

Chair of the SSS, Henriette Van der Does commented: ’It is with absolute pleasure that the SSS returns to this magnificent venue where we present our third Sculpture Showcase after two successful years. This former church is rather inspirational, offering us a wealth of space in which we can create smaller areas to not only suit all the different sizes and styles of artworks, but where we also can organise different activities around the creative process.

There will be demonstrations for the general public on Saturday and Sunday and educational tours for schools on Friday. We have extended our hours this year and are now open on three full days which will hopefully give the public enough opportunity to visit this unique, free, sculpture and art event.’

A wide range of sculptures in all sizes and in various materials including glass, metal, bronze, resins, clay, stone and found objects will be on display including classical, contemporary and abstract styles suitable for indoor and outdoor display. This diverse range of sculptures will form the central part of the exhibition, along with a wide range of paintings and sketches all displayed in this spacious and light former church. All sculptures and paintings on display will be for sale.
