Pippa Burley

Sculpture has remained an enduring passion since I began working from life in 1984. Years of dedicated observational work has taught me a fluency that I now feel confident to play with.

Possibly more influenced by painters than sculptors, I produce a variety of work, some reflective of the immediacy of a model, whilst others draw more heavily on memory and imagination.

I aim to get beneath the skin of both my model and audience alike, focusing on the dynamic tension between form and feeling.

It is my belief that figurative sculpture will always remains key to a societies understanding of itself.  Hoping to straddle the gulf between the neoclassical, and the purely cerebral, I aim to make expressive and evocative  forms, reminiscent of our earliest attempts to describe ourselves.
