Wisley Garden is a stunning venue with high visitor numbers and vast sales (last year amounted to over £120K) giving exhibitors huge exposure for their work.
This year we will have a completely new route for our sculpture trail. There won’t be any possibilities for placing sculptures in or very near water but we will be able to fit in more sculptures so some artists may get 2 pieces selected. The head gardener is keen to have sculptures in the beds between plants rather than on the lawns to keep the public, sculptures and planting safer.
Please bear in mind when choosing what to submit that a large number of Wisley visitors are children who touch, climb, hit and poke our prized pieces of art work, even though we try and protect more delicate
things.
This year there will be a new route. We will also be using different entrance and exit gates on set up day so please make sure you read instructions carefully.
The costs of sustaining the exhibition are high and we need to pay our way at Wisley for the use of this glorious venue as well as try and cover society costs. Hence whilst we try and present an exciting range of
creations, Wisley will naturally angle to select saleable pieces to maximise potential.
Please take care to submit very good quality photos of your sculptures (avoid having clutter in the background of shots), try and show your work to its best! (If you have really good photos of at least 1mb
please send them to me asap for possible use in publicity for the exhibition).
Whatever your motives for wanting to exhibit your work please don’t submit for Wisley unless you are able to share in the running of the show. All exhibitors will have to perform stewarding duties efficiently to
uphold our reputation and maximise the success of the trail and there are new legal requirements that mean all stewards will have to have full credit card machine training.
Important considerations before submitting works: Are you up to the challenge of producing a creative, toddler- proof sculpture and fixings? Can you be approachable and diplomatic at all times? Are you able to
cope with the novelty of a queue to purchase sculpture? And bring your smile for the task of handing out trail maps at the entrance…
Whatever aspect of showing sculpture at Wisley interests you, remember it’s a group venture requiring collaborative efforts from all who take part, from joyfully cleaning birds poo from the sculptures to
enthusiastically clinching that large sale for someone else’s work. As well as a mountain of other jobs that I will be looking for volunteers for!
You only have until 20th April to get your applications in so act now!
Here’s to another successful show in 2018.
Many thanks for all your help and contributions, kind regards, Alison Catchlove.
