Ramster Gardens 2021

Ramster Gardens is an exciting new venue for the Surrey Sculpture Society. For those that don’t know it, it is a beautiful place originally created in 1890 out of an oak woodland. The house isn’t open to the public but there is a very nice tea room and they have a membership scheme with people that visit the garden regularly as well as people that just pay for the day. The garden will be open 7 days a week, and during our exhibition the impressive bluebells, rhododendrons and azaleas will be out bringing extra visitors to the garden.

The garden is made up of little glades set within the trees and bushes, larger lawns and a small enclosed Tennis Court Garden with raised beds and paved walkways. There is potential to display outdoor sculptures of all sizes (smaller pieces must be displayed on decent weatherproof plinths or they would be lost in the surroundings), some of the trees are enormous and we could hang pieces from them or use the trunks to display wall plaques (there are no actual walls). It’s a big space and we think we could display up to 150 pieces (depending what you all send in on your applications!), to give us plenty of choice you can apply with up to 5 pieces each.

It will be a stewarded exhibition, with 2 people on duty every day so if you apply you must be willing and able to steward (training will be given). The sales desk will be in a gazebo at the entrance to the garden. Stewards jobs will include handing out guides to every visitor, chatting to people about the sculptures, checking and cleaning the sculptures and hopefully taking lots and lots of sales!
The Garden will start sending out publicity about the exhibition in January so early applications and photos will be very welcome.
