Hatchlands Park – a National Trust property in Clandon - is a new venue for the SSS this year where we plan to create a sculpture trail and an indoor exhibition opportunity in a marquee.
We are very grateful to Sarah Scott who has agreed to manage the show and to Allan MacKensie who has agreed to design the trail and the indoor exhibition. Please give them your full support.
We are very excited with this new venue since we can use a variety of settings to accommodate the varied creative output of our members. It is also the first sculpture trail to be staged at the park. Sue Streeter, head gardener at Hatchlands, is looking forward to working with us. She comments:
‘Sculptures at Hatchlands Garden will provide added incentive to visit us in June & July. Arranged on a circular route we hope visitors will enjoy the setting as well as the sculptures. From its woodland edge to the south, open rolling lawns for picnics to the west, a wildflower meadow full of bees and butterflies to the east, to a small parterre garden and terrace borders adding colour to the areas closest to the house where you can sit and take in the parkland views of ancient Oaks, Dexter cattle and Sheep. Hatchlands has a little something for all.’
We are also excited to announce that we have planned the SSS 25 year anniversary celebrations to take place during the show; both a private party for our members and some public events. Details will follow soon.
The Garden/Sculpture exhibition at Hatchlands will be open to the public on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays between 10am and 5pm with their annual ‘Opera Night’ on the evening of July 7. The exhibition runs from June 18 until July 14.
The application forms are now online, we accept 3D outdoor, 3D indoor and some 2D to enhance the indoor exhibition.
Please familiarise yourself with the specific T&Cs for Hatchlands.
Here is to special celebrations at an exciting new venue!
