WINTER LECTURES: Eminent sculptors/artists have been most generous in imparting their knowledge to us in a series of lectures over the past 3 years. They have included Sir Peter Blake, Philip Jackson and Martin Creed.
We are pleased to announce that for the 2009/10 Surrey Sculpture Lecture season we have arranged lectures from three very interesting and diverse artists. All the artists have sculpture at the centre of their practice but use very different materials and methods to convey their ideas. All of the lectures take place in Lecture room 1, Austin Pearce Building, University of Surrey, Guildford. For more information contact Colin Ward on 01483 560562 or e-mail at art4ward@btinternet.com
In October 2009 Chris Drury spoke about his work. Chris is a landscape artist whose work attempts to make connections in the world; between art and nature, microcosm and macrocosm, inner and outer. He works with many different disciplines, in particular with scientists and doctors. He has worked all over the world and makes large works outside, sculptures, installations, drawings, prints and videos. His lecture focused on two experiences and the work that came out of them: Antarctica - Heartbeats of the Earth, and Nevada - Mushrooms/Clouds.

In November 2009 Liliane Lijn spoke about her work, which is primarily concerned with light in its relation to matter.
Lijn explores the outside world with one eye and the inner with another, world and self, matter and consciousness. Her sculpture is both mathematical in its use of geometric forms, while simultaneously involving archetypes and a continuing obsession with time and memory. Lijn also works in an architectural context with sculpture sited in a number of prestigious scientific and medical locations.
