A self-taught sculptor, Robert works in stone and steel, creating abstract forms mainly based on the human figure. His work has been described as evoking subtle images of human emotions and states of mind.
He attempts to transmit an ‘inner truth’ while conceiving an overall unity of form, and retaining the essential values of sculpture – the sense of mass and volume, and the relationships between hollows, curves, planes and outline.
He started carving in wood during the 1980’s, and now produces work in stone, steel and cast bronze. Pieces range from small bronze maquettes to life size limestone carvings.
Sculptures have been exhibited at Denbies Wine Estate, ‘Sculpture in Paradise’ at Chichester, and the Menuhin Concert Hall.
